Skills and knowledge are the driving forces of economic growth and social development of any Industry. They have become even more important given the increasing pace of globalization and technological changes that are taking place. We have partnered with The Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI) to conduct on the job skill training programmes for construction workers. The training program aims to upskill the existing construction work force to meet global skill benchmark, which in return will increase quality and productivity of work.

Skill upgradation, in the trade for Masonry, Bar Bending and Shuttering, are being provided with an aim to not only enhance their professional capabilities, but also to improve their quality of life. The trainings have also led to reduction of wastage of material and a distinct improvement in the quality of work. The programme also includes soft skill trainings, health and sanitation awareness, aspects of workers safety etc. Financial inclusion is also an important component of the programme, bank accounts are opened for each beneficiary under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yogna and Adhar Card are also issued. Assessment are carried out by a neutral third party assessor Construction Skill Development Council of India (CSDCI).

We collaborated with Mobile Creches and various real estate developers to offer day care services to the children of construction workers on various construction sites and provide them with education, hygiene and nutrition. The intervention not only ensures a holistic development of the children but also enables the workers, especially the women workers to focus on their work and enhance their productivity. Also reduces the chances of accidents occurring at the site, since the children are in a secured and hygienic environment.

Through the interventions we are enhancing the capacities of communities’ to undertake responsibilities of providing quality services for their young children. The model enthuses the concept of education in children and the community at large. Ensuring that the children and parents understand the importance of formal education.

Teaches make efforts to increase awareness among the construction workers of many social issues such as the need for education, anti-superstition approach, the ill-effects of drinking, ills of child marriage, importance of education, etc. These issues are normally conveyed through street plays and focused group discussion. Women workers are continuously counselled in matters related to family planning, contraception etc. We have established eight such day care centers in Delhi-NCR.
